5 Tips to Refresh Your Outdoor Furniture

To be sure, there are not many things better in this world than relaxing on your outdoor patio during a cool summer evening. It's a great place to do some entertaining if you have friends over or just to refresh yourself after a long day. Plus, it's better than sitting on the ground.

Over time though, that furniture can start to see the effects of staying outside for so long a time. It can start to fade, stain, or possibly even tear. By implementing a few tips, however, you can give it a shine to make it look almost brand new.

1. Clean It Up

One of the best ways to make your furniture look amazing again is also one of the easiest: grab a brush and a little bit of soap and get to work. Scrub down any wood or plastic pieces you come across, and vacuum in between the cracks. If possible, throw the cushions and pillows in the wash to get the stains out. Hose down the space and allow it to air dry to get the debris off of the floor.

2. Add New Covers

If the cushions and pillows are beyond repair, simply add a new layer of fabric on top to create a brand new item. It's cheap, easy to do, and can give you an opportunity to add some color to your outdoor space. If you're feeling extra crafty, you can even add another layer of padding inside to make the pillows bigger or more comfortable, especially if they've gone flat over time.

3. Hang a Few Lights

Any outdoor space can be improved by adding some mood lighting. Put some candles in clear jars or hang some festive lights from the rafters to create a secondary source of light that will absolutely make the space feel brand new again. Even better, add a fire pit into the middle of your lounging area to allow you to enjoy your space on those cold, winter nights.

4. Plant Some Plants

Not only can plants provide a nice bit of contrast between the indoor-outdoor feel of your yard, but they can also play a pivotal role in combatting the elements. Certain types of plants, such as Lavender, can repel mosquitos and eliminate the need for bug netting. It doesn't even have to be a lot of plants; just a few sprinkled here and there will create a nice, natural barrier.

5. Accessorize!

It's not enough to simply have a place to sit down, every good outdoor space needs a few extras that you can add to spice it up as well. Add more pillows to the ones you've already recovered or replace older furniture with some of the options available at National Outdoor Furniture. Also, if you've got the space, consider adding a dining table to allow you to enjoy some nice meals outside.
